Biographie
Canadian pianist Ryan Wang captivated audiences worldwide when he won BBC Young Musician 2024, praised by the judges as a "truly remarkable musician", and for his "flawless technique" and "exceptional level ofartistry" (Guardian). His interpretation of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2 with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales at Bristol Beacon, broadcast on BBC TWO, FOUR and BBC Radio 3 was described by The Times as "absolutely cursive, producing drawings where the pencil never leavesthe page." His success at the competition at the age of 17follows an already long list of prizes and accolades fromaround the world.
During the 2024/25 season, Ryan performs twice in Paris at the Festival Chopin and at Salle Cortot where he was theyoungest ever recipient of the Prix Cortot in May 2024, along side Bordeaux's Esprit du Piano festival and recitals later in the year in Nice and Marseille. He makes his debut at the 2025 Edinburgh International Festival with a recital celebrating Chopin at The Queen's Hall, following performances at London's Kings Place and in the Piano Masters series at Cedars Hall Wells, where he had the honour of stepping in for Imogen Cooper. Further recent highlights include performing in the Young Piano Series at Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern and a recital presented by the Glenn Gould Foundation in Vancouver, his home town. In 2023, at just 15, Ryan was the youngest artist featured in Classic FM’s '30 Under 30', and he was selected for Fondation Louis Vuitton’s New Generation Series 2022/23 alongside Bruce Liu, Alim Beisembayev and Yunchan Lim. He has performed across the world in recital and concerto in Austria, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Spain, Italy, Singapore, Malaysia, China and Hong Kong, played at Windsor Castle, Carnegie Hall and even appeared on The Ellen DeGeneresShow.
Ryan began his musical training at the age of four under LeeKim Sing and Sunsung Kong; at 13, he moved to the UK ona music scholarship at Eton College, where he studied withGareth Owen; and in 2024 he graduated with an Artist Diploma from the École Normale de Musique de Paris under Marian Rybicki. He continues his studies in 2025/26 at theHarvard-New England Conservatory Dual-Degree programwith Wha Kyung Byun.
